Career & approach
Born on 12 May 1988 in Lyon. Lives and works in Paris.
Trained at AFIP in Lyon, Gökalp develops a multidisciplinary, self-taught practice shaped by experimental introspection. Across different media, he builds a coherent visual language in which each medium extends the same inquiry.
His work explores matter, depth and the tension between light and darkness. Across his series, he establishes a minimal, radical visual language in which chromatic density becomes a space for projection and perceptual experience. His art is instinctive, almost visceral.
Gökalp develops an instinctive, sensory practice at the intersection of painting, graphic art and visual experimentation. His work follows an organic inquiry in which creation emerges from feeling rather than a predetermined concept.
Rather than a fixed style, he develops an evolving, intuitive language. His works are connected less by technique than by a sustained attention to perception: how light emerges from darkness, how a surface becomes space, how the viewer’s gaze activates the work.
Each work grows from an immersive process involving all the senses: matter, gesture, rhythm, sound and emotional perception. Music plays a central role in his practice, shaping the tempo of the painted gesture and the dynamics of the composition.
Rejecting fixed categories, Gökalp freely explores the boundaries between the tangible and the digital, combining acrylic painting, textures, light and digital tools while also exploring sculpture. His practice offers a contemporary reflection on materiality and its transformation, allowing physical gesture and digital construction to coexist without opposition.
His work examines sensory memory, raw emotion and the intimate relationship between body, space and image. Through a sensitive, abstract aesthetic, he creates an immersive visual experience that asks the viewer to feel rather than interpret, and to enter into an intimate dialogue with the work.
